I never got "Quadrophenia". We got and totally dug Tommy in 8th grade, Who's Next was a classic and played everywhere from 1971 - 1975, mostly on FM radio and at parties.

In high school, there were niches, there was the Stones niche (leather, bikers, heavy drinking) there were the Zepplin heads (more heavy drinking, downers, acid) there were a few of us happy pot smoking Dead Heads, and by god there was a Who niche that viewed Quadrophenia as some kind of mystical holy grail prophecy, "Reign Over Me" had an anthem feel to it, just never connected with the damn LP.

Then came the tragic event in December of 1979 at Riverfront Stadium which had an apocalyptic feel and a sense that the era of stadium shows and the sea of wasted humanity was now somehow behind us.

Did you say "Live at Leeds!"

"We got and totally dug Tommy in 8th grade"

Who is this "we" that you constantly refer to? Anytime you make some shit up, you preface it with "we ..."

Oh, and you were "born in 1957," so you were only 12 in 8th grade?

All in good fun :-)

Kochman was so advanced that he was in eighth grade and taping GD shows even before he was born! That's how advanced he was.

Tommy is a better movie. Quadrophenia is probably a better album.

my son will start 8th as a 12 year old this august. Come to think of it i started 8th grade as a 12 year old as well. I think it was more common back in the day when schools had cutoff dates for starting that were after September 1 of that year. So if dark.starz has a fall birthday, it is quite possible that he was 12 year old in 8th grade and wasn't some sort of Doogie Howser.

I was also 12 in 8th grade. What's worse? When I was in 6th grade they decided to close the Junior High Schools and thus I spent an extra year at elementary.....then straight to Hayward High School. A 12 year-old in the same PE class as 18 year-old seniors and getting my ass kicked by the 9th and 10th graders.

We(me and my puny 8th grade buddies) preferred The Stones Garden State '78 bootleg over The Who.

Yes, I turned 5 in the month of May at Kindergarten. Same deal 12 to 13 in 8th Grade.

Yes, my bro(8 years older than I) had a kick-ass record collection and Star Fucker was on that record and as a 12-year-old if you could spin a tune like Star Fucker for your buddies you were nearly a god.

Well, lets see--yes, I was 12 in 8th grade as well.

It was the Riverfront Coliseum not Riverfront Stadium. Riverfront Stadium, was the cookie cutter stadium that housed the Reds and the Bengals. The Coliseum is now the US Bank Arena.
